How do you find accommodation?
No problem! We shall be pleased to arrange accommodation for you with a friendly host family in Torquay. We know most of them personally so you can be quite sure of staying with a family where you will be made very welcome. The families are located within walking distance of the town centre and beaches. The accommodation consists of a comfortable individual bedroom, heating etc., meals as required, usually breakfast and evening meal although most families include a packed lunch as well.
One of the things that surprises many students is the food. It is quite true that in the past English food had a bad reputation. Our host families may not cook the same food you get at home but students have told us again and again that they were surprised how good English food is. Some of our families even grow their own food, you cannot get it fresher than that! We also have host families who are very interested in foreign dishes and they may ask you to cook something that is typical of your country.
For those of you with a laptop, most of our families will be able to give you access to the internet.There is also a wireless facility at school so bring your laptop or iPad if you need to keep in touch with your company, family or friends.
Occasionally students ask us to arrange a flat for them. Of course this is possible but it is not something we recommend as staying with a family and using your English is an important part of your studies. Moreover, it can be difficult - especially in the summer months - to obtain a flat unless you book well in advance.
What are the charges?
Charges to vary according to meals required. Normally, accommodation with 2 meals per day, although most families supply a lunchbox as well : £105 - £110 per week. This is paid direct to the family by the student.
